Folks:

Here are some pics of my "new" (as of 1 week ago) 2002 Steffey model...

Seems there are not that many Steffey F5 images on the web, that I could find, so I thought I'd make these available.

As for the mando, I love it. Great Gibson volume and tone, even at low action setup. I'm in love! (Guess I'll have to change my screen name!)

Thanks! I've really been enjoying it, its my first "high-end" F-style mando.

BTW, the Monte-style mando you just posted is absolutely gorgeous. Your building talents are top-notch...keep up the good work!

Yes, very nice Gibson. One of the features of that model that I like is the shortened fretboard.

Alas, this is my only Christmas present this year...

And I'm perfectly OK with that!

What does this mean?

No florida extension on the fingerboard.

Very nice mandolin. I really like that burst on the back. When all the signature models came out, this was my favorite. Followed closely by the Doyle Lawson.

Very cool. Dark..... but well done.

I like the fingerboard terminus, too.

But that binding...white as snow!

beautiful Gibson . All the Steffey's that I have played have been cannons, they are probably the nicest sounding lacquer finished mando's out there.

Thanks guys, I've really been enjoying it. Just raised the action up to where it doesn't buzz, and it's really a-barkin now!

Played a gig last night with it, and let's just say that I'm definitely not equipment limited!

Actually, the binding is the off-white (light yellowish) ivoroid, not the rude stark white of say, a new Fern. I can't stand stark white binding on a mando...

If it's an 02 it probably was white. My fern isn't white anymore, it has yellowed a good bit. I REALLY like those Steffey models. I like the dark burst. I would have purchased one, # 50 but at the time I couldn't see paying the difference for that model. (and it was full price seems like)

Bowfinger:

You may be right, it could have been white originally. Fortunately, it has a slight yellowing to it already, which really suits me.

I actually had my heart set for many years on getting a Fern, but I prefer a darker burst, and I didn't want a fingerboard extension (Florida). The Steffey came available at just the right time, I guess.

What year is your fern?
