I'm a huge fan of the versatility of the mandolin, but sometimes, I need a break. Some songs just don't seem like mandolin songs:
Richard Thompson--"Can't Win"
Cream--"Sunshine of Your Love"
Neil Young--"Cortez the Killer"
The Beatles--"Revolution"
Elvis Costello--"Oliver's Army"

None of those tunes should ever be done with either bluegrass and/or old-time mandolin!

Ace of Spades by Motorhead works very well with the mandolin. As does Teenage Kicks by the Undertones.
Don't ask how I know this... http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

Heh,
I'm glad a lot of the stuff on the radio doesn't have mandolin, because I really wouldn't want to hear my favorite instrument in music I can't stand http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Anything by the Clash, and there's at least one R.E.M. song that I wish I could extract the mandolin track.

When Joe Strummer toured with the Pogues, they often played "London Calling" and "I Fought The Law" complete with mandolin.

You'd use mandocello for "Big Bottom". http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

After your departure to the hereafter, you are accordingly sent down to Hell (by ways of gluttonly via MAS). And here is your dilemma: Jimmy Buffet's "Margaritaville" played forever on the mandolin ... or the ukulele?

We did that in a jam at IBMA last year - I never heard the tune before, we had a blast....

Oh, MAN! I play Cortez the Killer all the time! And for that matter, Powderfinger, Sedan Delivery, and F#@*in' Up! I play them on my five string electric, and they RULE. Quit boxing yourself in like that, and get to rocking!
Happy Thanksgiving!
