View Full Version : Little bessie--blake and ostroushko
Little Bessie, from Norman Blake and Peter Ostroushko's "Meeting on Southern Soil," is one of my favorites. I am having difficulty picking out the chords. Does anyone have this worked out?

Sounds to me like it's this
Dm
Oh mommy closer closer mother
Am
put your arms around me tight
G Dm
Case I'm cold so cold dear mother
F G Dm
And I feel so strange tonight
The difficulty could be that the "minor" chords are actually modal chords. Sounds like for the Dm they're just playing
205X sometimes. Likewise for the Am they appear to play 2200.
Bear in mind this is not an exhaustive transcription but a quick listen.
Hmmm, need to check that version, I have only heard it in B...Country Gents, etc.

Thanks for the help. I had figured Dm, but I couldn't get the rest of the sequence to work for me. I'll try your suggestions.

"...come up here my little Bessie ; come up here and live with me...."(The Stanley Brothers - oft' copied, never(to be)equalled"). IMHO, of course. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wow.gif #http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mandosmiley.gif
