Does anyone have any ideas about some of the best USA mandolin camps that offer quality instruction that is not necessarily targeted at beginners, or pros either? #A vacation type location would be good. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mandosmiley.gif #http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/coffee.gif #http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wow.gif

There is one coming up in November in Roanoke. There are a few threads on Roanoke Bluegrass Camp active right now. A lot of "happy campers" have been there.

What was the last big one that took place over the last couple of months? I think I remember it was $110 for the rooms. That one is one that I would love to go to maybe next year.

Can't go wrong with the Mandolin Symposium (http://www.mandolinsymposium.com). On the campus of UC Santa Cruz in Santa Cruz California, with ocean views among Coast Redwoods; instruction by Grisman, Marshall (Mike and Evan), Compton, Steirnberg, and Tim O.; classes that are targeted toward both beginners and advanced players, and classes where the information is applicable to all levels of skill and experience.

There is Camp Bluegrass at Southplains College...I wouldn't call it a vacation spot. But it is a week long series of lessons. It can't help but make you better. I plan on going this next year.

THe cost is $575 for the week including room and board.

What city was the camp with the $110., rooms, Mangofish?
Thanks for the lead to the UC Santa Cruz symposium; although I'm not sure I would call California a vacation spot, only kidding.
The camp doesn't have to take place right away...I'm trying to plan ahead for a vacation/fun music stuff....I'm looking for an escape from traffic jams, cell phones, task lists, etc., so actually, a place outside of a major city would be good. I'm open to all mando genres, bluegrass, jazz, celtic, folk, rock, classical, Italian

Sounds like the Cap Cod Mandolin Camp (http://www.mandolincafe.net/cgi-bin/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=12;t=34173;hl=cap+and+cod)

The link above is to a discussion thread; the link to the CCMC website is here:
http://www.nemandolins.com
CCMC is hosted by the New England Mandolin Ensemble, and open to players of all styles and levels. The faculty are all high-level teachers as well as players. Dates for 2007 are September 28-29-30.
BTW, if you're around New England, NEME is performing next Sunday Nov. 5 at the Blackstone River Theater (http://www.riverfolk.org/) in Cumberland, Rhode Island.

I enjoyed Mandolin Camp North in Mass last year. But I don't know if it's happening again this spring. The website isn't updated and I didn't get a response to my email. Hope all's well with Mike Holmes and the others behind it. Does anyone know?
