Saw Roland White at the Station Inn Friday. He was playing a Flower Pot. Brand Spankin new and all flashy...lol I like his "beater" better..... http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif
No matter what Roland plays he is Roland and easily identifiable. One of the all time greats

Roland picked up his new Gibson last month. He is truly a legend and we are thrilled his is playing our mandolin. Great players love great mandolins.
Big Joe, is Roland playing a Master Model now?
Jim
Wow, When I last saw/spoke to him about a year ago, He was still loved his RW.

Roland is playing a custom fern. He chose its color and neck shape. It is a lacquer instrument. That was his choice. He still loves his Randy Wood, but it is getting lots of wear. Randy is a great guy and a good friend. We are just happy to have Roland (another great guy) in our fold!

That is an understatement....it had lots of wear 10 years ago...It does have alot of character and sounds sooo good......Big Joe, If you guys could distress me an instrument that looked like Roland's I might take you up on it! http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Yep, Roland's Randy Wood has some wear on it. Imagine the stories it could tell.
I had the chance to play it back late Feburary early March and it still plays and sounds excellent.
Looking forward to see and hear Roland with his new Gibson.

I saw Roland, bout a year ago at the station inn, And he was playin a SUPER nice mandolin, i guess its that RW, man did it sound good.
If it was a nice and shiney mandolin it was probably his Sumi mandolin. The RW is beatup but sounds like a million bucks

ok, the one he was playin, we just remembered, was a gibson copy, with the gibson name on it(as a maer of fact, he told me that, cause i asked him what it was, cause it sounded sooooo good, and it was beautifaly beat up)
Yup then that was the RW.

Roland was in yesterday with his new Gibson. He says he loves it and is excited to have it. He just brought it in for its 3,000 mile checkup. We just put it up on the lube rack and give it a good checkup http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif . He was just back a short time ago from his European tour and used his Gibson on that tour. It sounds great and plays great! Just thought you might like to know. Seemed somewhat timely.

Big Joe,
Have you got a picture you can share with us of Roland and his new mandolin?

My wife just spent five days studying with Roland and his new mando at the Sorefingers (http://www.sorefingers.co.uk/) camp in the UK (I took guitar with John Lowell). Here's a picture of Roland with his Gibson and Sue with her Vanden (on it's first birthday).
That looks like a killer mando!
Hmmm, could there be another signature mando in the works at Gibson? I do think Roland is worthy of a signature mandolin from the fine folks at Gibson OAI.

Yup I believe it is about to go down. Roland is definatly worthy.. I actually love the look of that model. I wasn't to crazy about the Doyle Lawson and the Alan Bibey model but if they do a model like this. I will definatly get one. That looks to have very cool appointments. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

I'm missing something here. Everyone says he got a new flowerpot yet Big Joe says it's a Fern. Which is it? Did he get a Fern or a Flowerpot? Photo shows a flowerpot. Did he get 2 new ones? Has it got the wide spacing, wider fingerboard like the RW? What's custom about it?

Roland is deserving of a signature model. Maybe that will work out in the near future. It sure looks nice. A nice mandolin for a nice guy.

Ok, technicalities. He has a Fern with a flowerpot headstock. It is the MM color with the flowerpot but still a fern. The woods, glue, and finish are the same as the Fern. We call our mandos in shop by the construction more than the headstock logo. Sorry for the confusion.
