View Full Version : What a Weekend

I had one great, musical weekend and just wanted to share:

Friday night Carol and I went down to Southern Maryland to sing at the Southern Maryland Traditional Music and Dance organization’s open mic. There were probably 50 or 60 people there; all of them enthusiastic about folk-style music and ready to pay attention to the performers. Carol and I did three songs and got a lot of positive vibes and feedback from the audience. So nice after many experiences lately being “background music” at commercial coffee shops.

Saturday night Carol and I presented her multi-media show to a group of people, most of them are Carol’s coworkers. This show blends poetry, a few hundred slides, and some of my old-time/good-time music. Again, an attentive audience and a lot of good feedback. A lot of "what was that instrument" questions about the mandolin. I also got to test out my new “one-mic” format and loved it.

Got up on Sunday morning and drove out to Ocean City to go to the Flashbacks photo shop. They do old-fashioned photography there with a variety of sets and now have a new feature where they take your picture in front of a green screen and then digitally add in different backgrounds. Carol and I took our performing outfits and were able to get two new pictures for the website and publicity flyers. (Yes, the derby, besides fitting the basic time period for the music, is a "tip of the hat" to John Hartford.)

Too bad more weekends can’t be that good. I guess housework is on tap for this weekend.

P.S. to see the new pictures, go to

They are on the home page and the performance page.
