Found this picture. Its a sketch by an artist by the name of Craig Elliot.

I am relieved the aliens play mandolin, though I wonder what style.

That is clearly a bowlback, and with the headstock ornamentation it looks like a Pandini. So my guess is it plays classical or Italian.

I must say, the tremolo technique (holding the pick still and moving the mandolin up and down) is non-standard. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

Alien? Heck no. That's me, trying to read tablature.
Note the sloped shoulders, despondant glazed stare, bristling spikish attitude, drool.
Unmistakable.

Sweet picture!! And Lee, I get that way reading notation for mandolin. I'm ok reading it for any other instrument, but not for mando!

Looks like the alien is using it like a spoon and ladles out something. Don`t like the picture in general.

That artist's style is a dead ringer for Heinrich Kley, but even with all of Kley's phantasy drawings, I never saw him do anything that could be termed "alien"

Great piece of work, but it's the first time I've seen a mandolin played clawhammer style... http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mandosmiley.gif

I googled Heinrich Kley. Wierd stuff. I found a kangaroo and joey playing a harp, and a monkey playing a piano, but nothing playing a mandolin.
