I happened to be in Michigan this past weekend. As luck would have it-Radim Zenkl did a workshop at Elderly in Lansing. Great guy, unassuming, helpful, good teacher. I recommend attending for intermediate and above levels. Even the beginners enjoyed the session and everbody learned something. $30 for a couple of hours. Well worth it. Noteworthy point of interest-His mando has a custom neck at least 1 and 1/2 inch width at the nut.

I recently attended a Breedlove clinic given by Radim and had a private lesson with him. #I learned more about the mandolin in that hour and a half then I had in all the time I have spent before that. #Great guy, awesome player, and a very good teacher, which is unusual. #I highly reccomend seeing him if anyone has the chance. #He is currently travelling from the west coast to the east and back over the next 3 months or so doing performances and clinics. #I think there is a schedule on his web site: #Radim Zenkl (http://www.zenkl.com)

I played that Capek custom mandolin you speak of Richard, and yeah the thing is ####### huge, wider than any instrument I have seen. #He just likes the big comfortable spacing, and has both an 8 and a 4 string version. #The spacing is as wide or wider than his custom Breedlove Mandola
