This is really for us n00bs out there. We gotta stick together. I got tired of plucking out the standards and was looking for something a little different. (and within my breathtakingly limited ability).

I found this nice little tab for Arlo's "Hobo's Lullaby". It translates well to the mandolin, its fairly slow (80bpm) and sounds nicely meditative on a quiet evening.

MIDI (http://www.duane.mediaempirehosting.com/Hobo's%20Lullaby.mid)

One thing I found by accident, its kinda like a vertical slide. I pick the E, but before going to C, Hammer on F, curl down to C and pick that. Gives it a rolling sound like a slide, but in the vertical direction, across strings, instead of sliding up one string.

If this makes sense, please tell me what the musical term is for this. I didn't know how to diagram it correctly in the tabs.

If someone wants to take the midi file and run it through Tabledit, I'd be glad to post that file also.

Anyway, this board has given me a lot, so I thought I'd try to give something back, limited as it is. Plus I gotta give my fingers a little rest.

Thanks. I love that song, though I'm pretty sure it's a Woody song rather than an Arlo.

Neither Woody nor Arlo wrote it. It's an old Goebel Reeves song.

I just googled it, and it would seem you're right. That's kind of curious though, in that it is on the Folkways tribute to Woody and Leadbelly (with Emylou Harris doing vocals I believe).

Both Woody and Arlo are associated with the song, and Reeves is a largely forgotten figure. I learned it from a Pete Seeger recording in the early 1970s.

Reeves also wrote "Boomer's Story," which Ry Cooder recorded.

This reminds me of a song I wrote centuries ago, called
"Gitarrens klagan" - ''Guitar's Lament''. It was sung in unsion
with an arpeggiated guitar line, very much like the one you posted.
