Hello folks,

I had played today at a Childrens Cancer Benefit and one of the many bands that had performed today had meantion that ledgendary Dobroist Josh Graves had passed away.

I don't know how recently this was and unless I'm mistaken I don't recall reading anything on the Cafe's HomePage about it. Just thought I'd pass this on to any of you diversified "mando/dobro" players ( I'm one of them) who may have not heard this news.

My thoughts and Prayers go out to his family.

I didn't see anything on the homepage, but there was a thread in the 'Bluegrass' forum back on October 1st. #Tut Taylor and Josh carried the dobro torch during the fifties when few were playing it. #They were a link between the pioneers (Cliff Carlisle and 'Bashful Brother' Oswald), and today's contemporaries (Mike Auldridge, Gerry Douglas, Sally Van Meter, Cyndi Cashdollar and others).

I saw him with Kenny Baker at a festival 5-6 years ago. #He was great that weekend. #God rest him.

I just found out that he had actually passed away on Sept.30, just a few days after his birthday, Sept. 28.
You can read more info at his website www.unclejoshgraves.com

There's some nice archival photos from his earlier days in the webpage to view as well.

There's also several photos of him (1965?) on f5journl's excellent thread "Post a pic from the Past". #It's also on the "Bluegrass" forum. #Takes a while to scroll through to find Josh, but what a thrill to see how all those great performers looked 40 years ago. FWIW.

I've elected Josh Graves as the "Player of the Greatest Lick in Bluegrass Music": #catch him on John McEuen's first String Wizards album, on the song Shuckin' The Corn > second break. #Makes my hair stand up every single time I hear it. #It's brief, but it's perfection.
