Beaver creek

I just got an email from a guitar student who is visiting his aunt in Calgary. He has a chance to buy a Beaver Creek mandolin for a little over $100 Canadian and wants my advice. He doesn't play any mandolin, but would like to learn. I had never heard of Beaver Creek mandolins and none of our local music stores have them. I assume it's a Chinese import, but how playable are these? He says it's a sunburst A model with f holes and good action.

Any advice?
