Does the coursing of treble strings around the right angle, or backward "L" hooks on a traditional bridge actually contribute anything to tone over and above that produced by straight course stringing?
Sorry, that was supposed to have been an "L" in the title description. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif

When this surfaced in another thread, I also answered: No. However, when I re-strung my Fern the other day, I took care to string it up using all the hooks as they were intended. When I tuned it to pitch and started playing . . . the answer was still: No.

Thanks guys. Was just wondering what Frank Ford meant by his comment in Frets.
