I know this has been discussed before, but I couldn't locate the thread. Who makes the rectangular cases for the MM's ? The case I am thinking of may not be the most current, but looks like the old cases.
Thank

My F5L came in a rectangular TKL case, but I believe a different company makes the cases for the Master Model. Maybe Big Joe could shine some light on this. I do know that Mandolin World Headquarters had a used MM case and was aking $500 for it.

I think Cedar Creek Custom Shoppe (part of TKL) makes the cases for the Master Model.

The MM's I have seen at the Gibson Showcase had Calton Cases.

The couple of GWW cases I have have tags in them saying "Made in Costa Rica." They're extremely nice. The Copper Creek facility that TKL owns and operates was the Harptone plant in Brooklyn. They also make a good product. I wish one could still go straight there and get custom cases. They made cases for National mandolins, gadulkas, harp guitars, you name it. Rumor has it that it's still the same crew and all the patterns are still there, but I'm sure TKL keeps them busy making "Geib" cases and the like.

Dear Forum: I'm having a bad case of "COS" (case obsession syndrome). I'm getting a new mandolin in the next few months and it'll be shipped without a case (the luthier just doesn't provide a case). So, it's up to me. I have a nice Superior "Loar" clone case that my A5-1 resides in and I want another. What I don't like about most oblong F-cases is the storage to either side of the mandolin is missing. Will the GWW case have this extra storage? Should I just go for a Saga shaped case? What about the Gator, the Eastman, the Travellite (I hate the zippers), the Calton - HELP ME!

p.s., Paul H. I was reading about the H3 in Acoustic Guitar last night - must have been a 3 year old mag, but interesting (and beautiful) guitars!
F-d, if you want the best replica Loar case, talk to Paganoni and spend some time finding the right sort of green silk velvet (will nearly double the price!) for Nancy.. Almost did that myself..

That case looks like it may have some SERIOUS design flaws if all the instruments you put into it come out looking like that....

GWW does not make the cases for Gibson. No Gibson comes with a Calton case, though many chose to carry their mandolins in a Calton.

Fatt-Dad,
The Eastman oblong case (Bobelock style) has two nice sized storage areas flanking the neck/headstock. They even have lids. Additionally, there is an outer flap the whole length of the case that can hold sheet music and some notebooks. The neck is held down with a velcro strap so even if the case falls open your mando shouldn't go flying.
The Eastman oblong has two zippers and then flaps covering the front with magnetic clasps and a locking pinch clasp in the middle. It's a bit of a pain to get into and out of if fully zippered. What I do at home is put the mando in, Velcro in the neck and clasp it shut. The magnetic buttons pretty much secure the rest. When out of home I zipper it all up. I think it's a good non-flight type case. It's more utilitarian than the Eastman fiberglass one but not as sexy.
Big Joe, what became of the oblong Calton with "the Gibson" on it from Loar fest? will those enter production?
