Ideally looking for something that either is a direct replacement or that will cover the old screw holes if not and exact match ...

Any suggestions?

THANKS!

Can't say about the holes, many require some adjustment which is really no big deal. #

I like my engraved Allen TR2.

I doubt there's a best. I've put on Allen & Weber, no biggie. Think I had to plug & redrill the endpin hole for the Allen. Something required that. About the worst you'll face!

Thanks guys! So if I understand correctly ...

If I were to go for a James and took it to a top shelf repair guy, he should be able to install the new tailpiece in such a way that a bunch of old screw holes won't show?

The instrument is new and nice looking and I wouldn't want to do anything to detract from it's appearance.

end pin hole on James is a bit oval to fit over end pin thats not quite on center.

This is great news ... thanks guys!

Brad ... Did you install your James on an Eastman by any chance?

Jason ... I guess its a matter of personal preference. I'm not at all in love with the look of the Eastman tailpiece and am pretty much convinced that the instrument will benefit not only in looks but in sound too by replacing it with a better quality, heavier tailpiece. I'm replacing the bridge too, with one of Steve Smith's mandola bridges. My only other experience with a PacRim instrument is with a Kentucky KM-1500 that I've had pretty much forever. Way back when, I got my friend John Monteleone to build a bridge for it and the sound improved about 1000%. So ... I figure with these two tweaks I can make a good sounding mandola sound just that much better.

hi,

i didn't. I put it on a skip kelley mandolin, but it still should do what you are looking for if the screw holes are already there. not totally sure, but i think it is a standard switch. someone here must know that for certain. or just ask eastman directly or one of it's major sellers.

Hi Brad .... thanks!! As a matter of fact, Eastman is on my list of phone calls to make today. I guess I'll get the final word from them (if in fact they even know) but your experience with the James is encouraging! My fingers are crossed ... http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif
