Got my custom Yellowstone this weekend. It has a cedar top w/ tone bars and the traditional style bridge. First impressions: beautiful finish work, and right out of the case a warm mellow tone. Nicely set-up thanks to the folks at the Mandolin Store.
When I a/b'd it against my japan-era Kentucky KM700 (which is a VERY loud, much played mando), I thought the Weber was not going to have the punch of the Kentucky. Then, I leaned into it a little and it just blew the Kentucky away. It responds well to a lighter touch, but has plenty of backbone as well - it seems much more sensitive to right hand technique. Kind of got a smoky edge to the tone in the mids and bass, and a good gutsy chop that you can feel in your ribcage.
Me likes it muy much.
