Ok Folks...now that I have acquired my pink mandolin, I'm looking for either manufactured or customized companies who can make me a mandolin gig bag that is preferably not black! I did a google search and I found nothing! So I'm asking my fellow female mando girls if they can help me out! I loove pink, purple and pretty much all colors but primary colors. If you know of anyone who can help me out but won't cost an arm and a leg lemme know!

Hi Amy,
Boulder makes a bag in Tan, Blue, and Green. You can see them at Elderly's webpage (http://elderly.com/accessories/cats/CSMN.htm). I know that they are not the colors you're looking for, but at least they are not black.
Pete
P.S. I's like to see a picture of that pink mandolin.

I'd try The Colorado Case Company (http://www.coloradocase.com/pages/Mandolin.html). They have gig bags in a variety of different colors.

I have a Blue Heron case. Not inexpensive, but great workmanship and protection for a soft case.

Amy-
custom made gig bags tend to be pretty expensive. the Boulder Alpine gig bags are truly excellent... very durable, with great pockets, straps and appointments... well made, etc. They come in a dark green, medium-dark blue, and tan, as mentioned above. And they are only about $30... well worth it for something so well made.
I'm not aware of other inexpensive gig bags that aren't black.
Another option would be to find someone who sews to make you either a custom bag or a cover for a black bag/case.

I forgot to mention that I have one of the Boulder bags. They definitely are great bags.

I'll second/third/fourth the vote for the boulder Alpine bags. Mine is the pretty blue one. One thing to do with it is sew a bunch of cool patches on it to really make it yours.

If they can make Pink Corvettes, a pink Calton should be possible, way better for that catastrophic woops! than a soft bag.
FWIW, plastic foam mattress pad stuff is available in a variety of densitys, so soft one inside and a more dense outside would be a worthy consideration.

Blue Boulder bag here. Sadly, they don't come in pink or purple.

You really want something special, how about a Levy's Padded Gig Bag in a Cheetah print? This is what adorns my Ovation Custom Adamas Mandolin:

That's just wrong.
The Colorado and Blue Heron are more than just a gig bag. Very good padding in each. I have one of each - a straw colored Blue Heron for my F and a red Colorado for my A. The Colorado purple may appeal to you and the Blue Heron blue is a bright royal blue.

I have a purple bag from Colorado Case. It's a very bright, vibrant shade of purple. You can get constrasting trim and embroidery--hot pink would look great with your mandolin. The bag is very substantial and sturdy; my mandolin has made it through throngs of jr. high and high school students without mishap.

Not to throw a damper on things, but the price of Blue Heron and Colorado gig bags is over $150, which, I believe, is more than the cost of the mandolin. If Amy can spend that much on a gigbag, she would have been better off spending more for her instrument.

Another way of looking at it is to get the Blue Heron and allow that to be the basis for trading up to a more expensive pink mando. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

Here's my suggestion: tennis bag. Head down to your local big sports store or check online. If you don't mind sports company logos...
Here is one (http://www.holabirdsports.com/cgi-bin/product?product=070612) for a mere $30.
There are plenty of other choices in pink (http://froogle.google.com/froogle?q=tennis+bag+pink&hl=en&lr=&lmode=online&sa=N&start=10).
Good luck.

oh, I think the Cheetah print is perfect for the pink mando!
Another option... buy a Boulder Alpine bag and get some brightly colored sharpie markers, maybe even the metallic ones.... and decorate the bag yourself.

You can get the tan Bolder bag and dye it any color you want. Check out the Procion dyes at the Dharma Trading Co. (http://dharmatrading.com/) web site. You'll get a bit of a color shift on the outside of the bag (since you don't have a white base color) and you will probably have to boost the concentrations up because the bag is nylon, but it SHOULD work.
Well, maybe a call to Dharma would be a good place to start.

Stencils! Go to Michaels. You can base coat the nylon bag with gesso (if you want a white bacground) and then acrylic stencil to your hearts content then spray with a protector. Certainly will be unique. I put my el-cheap and my Weber in the Boulder bag It's great.

Hope the solocomp can fit in a cheetah bag! made this one from ensolite, dyed canvas, fake cowfur scraps for 'The Ripe', looking for the right yellow cordura for a bag for the swiss, no inspiration yet for the interior, maybe more cowfur...maybe your mom or any older woman with a commercial sewing machine could make one. how about that lady in tucson who makes great inexpensive bass bags?
You should come to an artwalk in truth or consequences and jam with the pink violin lady, she wears matching dresses to perform!

Ok guys...your ideas are good. But as much as I would love a $150+ bag its not in my budget at this time. Guess I'll wait around for a while and hope that the gig bag manufacturers try to appeal to a wider audience!http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

Amy FYI the Boulder Alpine bags are only $33 and are very nice quality - thick padding, removeable backpack straps, lots of little pockets and zippered compartments, soft interior lining - really an amazing value if tan, blue, or green will work for you...
