I do have to say that I love the mando work Richard Thompson does on John Martyn's "Over the Hill". It is super simple and the solo is basic but it is terribly effective. great vibe.

Those doublestops runs are similar to the ones you might use on the second part of "Roanoke", if you want to think about it.
That early John Martyn stuff was really good. RT plays elec guitar on "Sugar Lump" on Martyn's Bless The Weather, the previous record, and perhaps my favorite. The two he did with his wife Beverly (Stormbinger, Road To Ruin) had some good songs on them. #After Inside Out, Martyn's vocals became real hard to understand and the songs didn't seems as good. (drunk? - he was supposed to have been a real bad alk for awhile) and I didn't keep up with his new stuff. I never had his Live At Leeds album (bot to be confused with the one by the same name by The Who), but it was supposed to have been very good.
(Joe Boyd had great taste as a producer - Fairport, RT, Sandy Denny, Martyn, Nick Drake, Mike Heron.... #I used to pick up almost anything that had the Witchseason icon/logo on the jacket.)

Hey, the piece on National Public Radio (main board) about Andy Statman said that Richard Thompson played on one of his unreleased albums. Man, I would LOVE to here those two play together.
