Looking at a Eastman 615 used mandolin. #Looks like its in very good condition. #Currently have a Dean F style. Would the Eastman be a upgrade, if so how much of a upgrade. price is less that they seem to be going for on Ebay. #Would this mandolin sound better that the Dean???
thanks
Dan

Ooops. That was me saying "yes." I was on Gordon's computer up here in Maryland. He's playing one the Draleon Le Grande jazz guitars now. Incredible machines.

MD615 I would think is quite a bit more of a mandolin. Get good setup.

Don't know anything about the Deans, but I couldn't be happier with my new 615. #When I get it to Steve to work his Voodoo on it, it will be incredible. #Moreso than it is now.

Steve, you want to pick up my 505 and/or 604 on your way back through and give them the once over twice? http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif

Fiddlingdan:
I started with a Dean F style--the solid one. I've since picked up an Eastman 615. The tone, chop and volume of the Eastman are so far beyond the Dean that it's almost not a fair comparison. They're in different leagues. Get the Eastman, stick a ToneGard on it, and you'll be set for a long time.

Don't know about that! My timing is unpredictable. Have a family that likes to eat, sleep, etc. Wimps.

Will be back into the gypsy jazz training program here at Gordon's today. Having fun looking at all his toys, as usual. Building a gypsy jazz website, so I need all the background.

Eventually "the girls" will show up. They're off riding a Lance Armstrong ride for cancer research in Philadelphia on their tandem bicycle. Actually, they should be just started 3 minutes ago.

Tomorrow we'll go visit Eastman and see what's what. Maybe I can find some goodies. I'm actually looking for a few guitar and bowed string things. Always fun to poke around and see what is new.

Then returning down the valley, I81 monday afternoon. Might make it all the way late, but likely to crash somewhere in SW Virginia. A motel unless there's a better idea!

Just tell me which rest area you're leaving the instruments at and I'll grab them!!
