ok, ive got the rim built, and the tonebars attached to the top. What should i do next? the siminoff book is good, but its gettin on my nerves cause to me its too speradic, it could just be me, but its seems to go from bending the sides-to-finishing it.(exagerated) heres why im askin what to do, in the book it shows him carving the scroll after the mandolin is assembled. now, i know ive seen people, carve the scrolls before the tone bars were even on. shoul i just make a simple jig to hold the top and let the tone bars hang thru the bottom, or just do like it says in the book, and carve it after its completely assembled?
Thanx Guys,
Seth

Whatever you end up doing, write it down. If it works out, you'll have a record. If it doesn't work out, write down why not and how you should have done it. I wish I had started doing that before I did, it would have saved me from figuring out some of the same things more than once.
Now I have a "flow chart" to follow to keep me from doing things in the wrong order. I still change it a little from time to time as I figure out new or better ways to do things.
I know what you mean about the Simonoff book. I haven't seen the new book yet, but the old one reminded me of a Steve Martin comedy routine from my college days:
"YOU can be a millionaire! It's easy. First, get a million dollars. Now......."
Anyway, I have my scroll pretty much carved before I glue the tonebars, there's always a little more work to do on it after the body is glued together tho.
I carve the tonebars after the top is glued to the rim. I guess I do it that way because the Siminoff book did, and it's always worked, so why change?
