11K for an A style anything. Good grief.

I assume are referring to a Nugget A that you saw for $11K. I am not in that tax bracket, but I will say this: I sat about 10 feet away at a workshop while Cecil Tinon of the bluegrass group Bulls Eye played his Nugget A at a workshop. Talk about "a distressed model!" This instrument appeared to have had about a 5" hole smashed in the top, just below the bridge, which had been poorly patched with what appeared to be plastic wood. That was still one of the best sounding mandos I have ever heard. The tone and the volume were incredible. Cecil is a great, great player, BTW. I have to say that I could see a professional pay $11K for a "non-distressed" Nugget A. I wonder what Tim O'Brien's Nugget A will go for some day? A whole lot more than $11K, I'm guessing.

I have seen Gilchrist A's go for around $15,000. I think he is lowering the price because of the substantial playwear.

Prodigal A-5's from Mark Taylor and Crafters of Tennessee go for $12K. Great build quality on these equal to the Gils and Nuggets I've seen. still $12K for an A style is getting up there.... http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif
