View Full Version : Rigel G110 Tailpiece Question
I presume the tailpiece is supposed to be in a fixed position but mine is loose. I didn't notice with the strings on because the tension was holding it in place. Is this the way they are designed? The strange thing is looking at it now I can't see how it was ever fixed in place... Can anyone help me?

Hmmm- I think it floats...some. If it is like the one on my Jethro it has one hole in it and the endpin/jack mounts the tp to the mandolin. The jack/endpin is not secured all that tightly, I think it is in there with 3 balls that can be tensioned with a tool inside the jack, but I am going on sketchy memory, anyway they aren't very tight and the tp can rotate. Mine is very close to having one of the hooks hit the top surface of the mandolin. You can tighten the tp more but at some point it will increase the liklihood of a crack in the wood, so I just let mine be.

Rigel tailpieces use a allen wrench just in side the output jack hole that tightens or loosens a screw that compresess the jack to the hole. Use a wrench to loosen the screw a bit,(to the left) push the endpin/jack towards the body and using the left hand and thumb to hold it, tighten the allen screw. This is all that it should need. Kenc
JGWoods,
yep sounds like the same tp. I was thinking about just letting it be (the hooks are very close to the top but not touching) but then I thought maybe the tailpiece should be in a very precise position and by coming loose it may affect the tension of the strings or something.....but I have no idea to be honest. The mandolin is playing fine.
Kenc,
you live up to your username! Thank you. I'll do just that.
