I was listening to my favorite radio station today, and caught a great interview with Pete Seeger. He had a good anecdote or two about Somewhere over the Rianbow. I thought, hmm, that would make a good mando tune. Right now all I have is the basic melody, playing it in C, repeating it up an octave, but I'd love to hear of any good recordings/arrangements out there. Thanks!

Dave Peters played it with Kelly Lancaster. I have a few different live recordings of it.

Check out Tone Poems 2 w/ Grisman and Martin Taylor. They do it in Eb, I believe.

My favorite arrangement is by Israel Kamakawiwo'ole. It's on the album "Facing the Future". Granted it's on a uke, not a mando. At least it's not a banjo right... He had an incredible voice, besides being a great uke player.

Amazon.com has a decent sound clip of it. It was also on the closing credits of Meet Joe Black.

One of these days I'm going to remember to learn to play it.

Reischman did a gorgeous solo version of this, very lovely voicings.

My favorite arrangement is by Israel Kamakawiwo'ole.

Mine too. It's also on the closing credits of Finding Forrester where it seques into What A Wonderful World by Louie Armstrong, which is an appropriate musical metaphor for a very good movie, BTW

Jethro on Tea for One for the chord-melody solo version. Barry Mitterhoff does it on Silk City as part of the Wizard of Oz Medley.

I agree the Reischman chord-melody version is very nice indeed. It's tabbed out in the tabedit files

If I remember correctly, Tony Williamson does it as part of a medley on Across the Grain.

Best vocal version is IMO by Eva Cassidy.
