saw this: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/magazine/5305520.stm

that publishers got the online guitar tab site shut down, as a way to share other people's familiar Pop tunes.. ASCAP& BMI at work, I suppose.
will all covers (rendition) of any known tunes be next in the legal target?

cultural copyright , perhaps pre-empts culture. better start writing your own melodys.
and dont make any phrases that sound familiar.

Wow...

But they have survived similar attempts before. Maybe there is hope.

The site seems to have been down since July 25 (http://www.bullemhead.com/nonfiction/olga.html). I'm surprised it took a whole month for us to notice here at the Cafe...

In the end, if they go it will be very sad, but there will be other sites. And if all of them go, then i guess we will have to learn music the way we used to, before Al Gore invented the Internet.

So Al Gore DID invent the Internet? I suppose it's better than inventing weapons of mass destruction.

I noticed that more than a few sites that used to offer free sheet music now make you pay. You don't have pay much, but you still have to pay.

This has happened before. Last time people kept tabbing music and sharing them on usenet in alt.guitar.tab. I don't expect much to change this time.

You probably already are aware of the site, but ultimate-guitar.com is a gold mine of FREE tab.

apparently with some advertizing on the site to have some funds for the electricity to run the server on, they thought there was a profit in free.
