I am a newbie and living where I do in the UK there very little mandolins around. There is a store selling Fender and Aria mandolins but its a 100 mile round. If anyone has knowledge of either of these mandolins would they let me know how they felt about them. If any UK or Irish members can help I am looking which solid wood mando's I can buy in the UK for up to £400. If anyone knows whether Mid Missouri mandolins are obtainable in the UK I would be interested to know as i have heard they are pretty good and dont cost the earth. Thanks in advance

Are you anywhere near this store? (http://www.theacousticmusicco.co.uk/)

The owner posts on the cafe frequently and they are widely acknowledged as the best shop in the UK.

Most inexpensive, Pac Rim mandos vary widely in quality. If you can get your hands on one that is easy to play and sounds decent, that's great. I have a Kentucky A that falls into that category. Ordering one withbout playing it is a gamble. I've played Fenders that sounded thin as skim milk. I've played one - a $200 A style - that sounded quite good. Good luck.

bugaslone/George,
Not much between Aria and Fender, they are probably made in the same factory. I get some of my own name mandolins with Aria on sometimes.
For £400 I can offer you Eastman or Furch, both excelent value for money, and a few used mandos, all on my website (below). If you would like to discuss the options, sound etc., why not give me a call on 07790 908535.
BTW Delivery anywhere in the UK £15.00

Fender had one F-Style that I think I thought was "ok" looking, but it's the "playing" that means something.
I know how nervous I felt about having a Mandolin shippped across the USA, so I would imagine that "overseas" would drive me to drink! (Cheers).
