..I just heard some great news today..Bruce Taggart is once again building mandos. These were my first taste of custom built mandos. I owned 2 or 3 of them back in the 80's. Keep you eye out for them....great boxes

I talked to Bruce a few weeks back about building me an A5. In the course of discussion, he said that he'll have some new F5s with him for sale out at BeanBlossom in June.

Jim,
So whats the deal? Is he taking orders or just selling them as he makes them?

I was the guy that told Scotti, I was just down there at his shop last Sunday, I was looking for a mando and decided to give Bruce a call just in case he had one and he did, a 1981 model that had been sitting around his shop for a year. While he was putting new strings on it for me to try out he showed me a 98 model that was new and never owned, it started sounding really good to me the more I played it but after he changed the strings and raised the action a little on the 81 I knew that was going to be the one. It had belonged to a one ownwer who had passed away over 5 years before his widow talked to Bruce and Bruce ended up buying it back so the mandolin has been laying around in its case unplayed for over 6 years. Sounds to me like it will be a monster when it wakes back up, I could tell after just 20 minutes of playing that it was starting to change rapidly. He was in the process of building 3 more that will be done sometime in May, they looked awesome, he said he believed that they are the best batch he's ever built so far. What he told me is that someone will order one so he will build three, he does not advertise but someone like myself will call and ask him if he has any and there they are. Bruce is a super nice guy and his shop is really cool. It is above his garage with lots of windows in the hills of Brown County just about a mile south of Bean Blossom. His main specialty though is fiddles. I know someone will ask, his newest ones will be for sale for $4600.
Welcome back Bruce! I've got a 1982 Taggart A. Beautiful tone, strong clear punchy and musical. The body seems thinner than usual and the neck is especially narrow with a radical amount of radius to the fretboard. Never seen anything quite like it.
