Bill Monroe recorded 28 songs with Bill and Lester in the band, during four studio sessions in 1946 and 1947. I think those 28 are in this list of 35 recordings from 1945 to 1948 - I'm just not sure which seven don't belong. Does anybody else know? I would just check the liner notes on my JSP box set covering those years, but it is out on loan at the moment, and I can't seem to find that particular info anywhere on the internet.

Thanks John.

The question came up over on BanjoHangout, since according to a poster there Ricky Skaggs is planning to record an album of those 28 songs in honor of the 60th anniversary of the beginning of bluegrass (see http://banjohangout.org/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=60704 ).

Blue Grass Special
is pre-Flatt, Tex Willis played the guitar.

Can't You Hear Me Calling
Travelin' This Lonesome Road
Blue Grass Stomp
The Girl In The Blue Velvet Band

these four are post-Flatt; Mac Wiseman played the guitar
and sang lead on the first two numbers.

I'll Have A New Life

is a puzzle; no such title in Rosenberg's discography

Come Back To Me In My Dreams
is pre-Flatt, has Tex Willis on guitar; very rare instance of Monroe
singing lead on the chorus, Sally Ann Forrester sang the
high part. Monroe later recorded the same song as a solo
for Decca.
Just a little foot-note to the previous post.

I think "I'll Have a New Life" was cut on the Tex Willis/Stringbean/Sally Ann Forrester/Ced/Chubby session in Feb, 1945
