Hi all, I'm getting ready for my first attempt of building an F5,I've never built any kind of a musical instrument, But i've been a carpenter for 33 years,(mostly custom homes),so I know a little about wood working. I've bought most of the wood now, and spent a small fortune on new & used tools for my dream mando shop, I dont plan on selling mandolins, just want to make my own,and maybe one for my son. The problem I'm having is getting the grain to be in the correct place,(tight grain in the center, wide towards the outside), Is this correct? When I lay the 2 pieces together, the way that they have been cut to be a book match, the grain is just the opposite.(wide to the center),also looking at the end grain it isn't like suggested in simonoff book, like this ( \\\\//// ). I really need some help, this is making me more nuts. This is a real pretty, heavy bearclaw sitka topset,30 grains per inch. Please help.
Thanks a bunch, folms
