Hey all,
I asked all the DFW folks a while back about places to shop. Some people mentioned Charley's guitar Shop. I called today about mandolin strings. The lady that answered asked if I was looking for J74's! I went in today as I broke some strings moving my bridge around. The lady that answered the phone is so nice. Gave me some numbers for instructors. Let me play all the mandos. They have a Gibson F9 (not that great), Two Weber Yellowstones (am I the only person not to be blown away by a Weber? The blonde Yellowstone was alright), A Collings MF (drool), and the best of the bunch a Gibson 1914 F2 (sweet). That F2 was very nice. Fun to play. Only other one I've played was at a guitar show here in Dallas. But due to the thousand crappy guitarists playing Enter the Sandman, I couldn't really appreciate the instrument. If you're real nice, she'll show you her high end Collings. Whew, that baby was nice. I'll never have enough to own one, but that baby was sweet. Really nice folks. She said she was pushing to get more mandos in the store. We'll see how that works out. Definately worth a visit if you've never stopped in. String prices are a little higher than some online shops, but maybe we can all go in and they'll realise there is a good mando market in DFW and start getting more.
