my partner and i found a site to create a free website for musicians (you can pay more to get more stuff on it if you wish), that allows you to put up pics, and a few songs (the copyright stuff matters so put up originals or pub. domain stuff).

our site is www.purevolume.com/nos

once you're on, you can download tunes or (quality not as great), click on the pop up player, and listen to a few of our originals (folky stuff and one balad).
the third tune is one of mine and is a short folky ditty with some mando on it (please be kind , i'm still a newbie). i play harp on the other two songs which are my partner's tune.

if you have interest, click around and you can sign up yourself. free and easy.

enjoy,

Great stuff, Ira. I thought the mandolin playing was good. Nice songs, too.

Which of you is the therapist? (NOS)

gary- glad you got the clue. both- we work together at a residential treatment center for children with severe emotional and behavioral issues.

we chose n.o.s. (not otherwise specified) because of the play on the clinical/diagnostic terminology and because we do many types of music (folk, rock and blues covers, etc...)

thanks for the nice note about my mando playing. still not the most confident so it helps.

ps- are you in the field?

I am an addictions counselor and hang out with the old DSM-IV a lot.

I am fairly new with the mandolin myself but I have found that I am harder on myself than I should be. It really isn't reasonable to compare myself to Grisman; I remind myself that I'm playing darned good for Gary. #http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mandosmiley.gif

great way of looking at it.

btw- another free site that folks can sign up for: our website is below. click around and open your own if interested. we can put some covers on this one.
(btw- let me know what you think about the jam in norwegian wood- tried to get a little bit of a 'sitar' sound.)

Nice mandolin work on Norwegian Wood. It sounds like you guys play well together. Are you doing any gigs?

thanks, we will be hosting a weekly open mic at a local bar, do some coffee houses, and will be playing at some summer concert series through town grants in our area (metrowest suburbs of boston).

I'll get in touch with you before I go north again. I haven't yet made it to the Boston area but might be able to hear you guys when I'm up next. (Also scope out some possible places to play when I finally move up there.)

I think the name "Sigmund FLloyd" would be wonderful for a psycho-grass mandolin band...

How about "Axis II: deferred" for a first album title?

For a time I played with some other mental health folks in the "Borderline String Band," and our listeners thought that it referred to our location along the Michigan-Wisconsin border.
