View Full Version : Lyon & Healy
Howdy all,
Does anyone have a detailed pic they could share of the infamous pull out knee rest/vest-pocket post found on the old L&H models. Mine is missing and I would like to fabricate a replacement.Seems like a simple yet rewarding project. Thanks

Photo is linked to a Lyon & Healy Style A that was for sale at Elderly.
Is that spring loaded or anything?
I think its #held in by friction, the shaft must feed thru the gromet(bushing) from the inside of the mandolin with a stopper ring or lip, then screw on a knob to keep it from pushing through.
Thanks for the pic, now off to the Labratory to see what I can dig up...... http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

I recall that some of those I have seen have also had a black plastic cap at the end. Mine is also missing that extension piece.
You can see that black cap on this one from Bernunzio's site.

Thanks, Mike, for the offer.
I think mine might actually be stuck in the hole, missing the end cap. If i get a chance tomorrow, I will photograph it.

I rememeber there being an article about this knee rest in mandolin magazine. The way it was decribed led me to believe it was a piece that was seperate - that it could be completely removed....maybe someone knows which article I was talking about...I will look at it again tonight.

wow, what a neat mandolin accessory, is there any maker out there today that puts thees on there mandolins? sounds pretty cool to me, they are of course replaced on F style mandolins by the bottom point on the treble side, but what of a styles?

L&H had some other good ideas that have gone by the wayside, such as a tailpiece that had a clamp down tensioner with felt to dampen any rattles that might occur there.. And their tuners were superior....Willie
