I'm going camping in Northern Michigan in a few weeks. Actually, I wouldn't really call it "camping" per-se. My friend's family owns a lake house and we set up tents on the other side of the lake. There's a covered pavilion with a full kitchen, running water, fridge, etc. I really want to bring my Epi. MM-30E with me to play. I'm semi worried about colder temperatures at night. I would leave it in the pavilion area in a safe spot, but It's likely to get down to about 45-50 degrees (F) at night. It may also get hot during the day. It's not a very expensive mando, but it's the only one I own. Is there a high risk factor with these temperatures? Would a Dampit help if it got hot and humid?

I'm no expert but I wouldn't think 45 to 50 degrees would present a problem. Likewise I haven't heard of high relative humidity being a problem. (I've heard of low humidity causing problems, though). I'd say, enjoy your trip and your mando.

I too don't think those temperatures would adversely affect the instrument. #I've got a $175 'beater' mandolin I bought new about 10 years ago (a Pac-Rim Lotus A-style) and I take that to deer camp in upper Michigan in NOVEMBER. #No problems with that so far. #
Do watch out during the spring/summer months as most insect repellants will eat the finish off though! #http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wow.gif
