I would like to know if there are any good mandolin instructors in the Northern CA, near yreka/redding or southern oregon(medford) area? I bought a Johnson 120 A style f-holes and would like to get some one on one instruction to make sure I am doing it right. I bought my beginners package from Folk of the Wood, and use the intro to mando from Mickey Cochran, but would like a live instructor as well...thanks, susan

If I were you, I'd try to get to Lark of the Morning Camp (http://www.larkcamp.com/) at the end of July. #There you would surely meet many mandolin players, from No. Calif. and be able to connect up with prospective teachers.

I think the camp idea is a good one. Here are two other ideas that have worked for me. 1) Check with music stores that sell a lot of acoustic instruments. They may either have instructors or know instructors. 2) Attend performances of local bands who play stuff you would like to play. See if you can talk to the band members on break, although don't take too much of thier time - they do need the break! Ask them who they know in the area who teaches.
