I see where Gibson has a showcase on Beadle street in Memphis. My wife and I might make a long weekend up there July14-16. Should I make plans to visit this showcase? Do they have a bunch of mandos there?
I also understand there is a nice jam every Friday evening in nearby Collierville. Definitely will make that.
Any other suggestions? How about the alltime best drop dead BBQ joint? http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif
Thanks,
Mark

I think all of Gibson's acoustic instruments are made in Nashville.
The Friday night jam in Collierville is a good one. #Collierville is just east of Memphis. #There's a Saturday afternoon jam at a church from noon until about 3:30. #Check out this website for more details: #www.memphis-bluegrass.org (http://www.memphis-bluegrass.org)
BBQ - the most famous place is probably the Rendezvous downtown - known for ribs. #There are lots of other places - Corky's, Germantown Commissary (my favorite), etc...

Actaully, the mandolins, banjos, and dobros are the only acoustic instruments made in Nashville. The acoustic guitars are made in Bozeman Montana. Memphis makes the semi-hollow electrics like the ES 335, etc. In Nashville the solid body electrics and custom shop electrics and arch tops are made. The Memphis store does not handle bluegrass instruments. We have plenty in Nashville though and we have jam sessions. You can usually talk some of the guys in the store into jamming with you to. Believe me, they can play! Especially Jake and CD.
Big Joe, is there still an open Bluegrass Jam at the showcase.... I'm thinking it was Monday nights? I recall running over there after the songwriter's night at the Bluebird Cafe and I'm pretty sure that was a Monday.
