I know that Mandolin Bros. is about 90 miles south of Middletown, NY but I'm not too sure if I'll be able to make it to NYC.
How about Middletown, NY? Any festivals? Music stores?

I know of no music stores in Middletown outside of the usual electic guitar-centric fare. However, its not too far from Grey Fox if you'll be here in mid-July or Falcon Ridge a week later. Also close to the new Bethel Center for the Performing Arts on the site of the Woodstock festival in White Lake. CSNY in August, among others. There also used to be an excellent house concert series of contemporary folk music near Middletown, but I haven't heard anything this year.

In Nyack, New York on Mondays there is a bar called O'Donoghues and they have old time and Irish jams there.

I went to Ramapo College many, many moons ago. I remember a bunch of us use to go down to Cheers. Is it in and around that area? If my memory serves me correctly it was on Rt 59 (I guess) and not too far from the Tapanzee Marina.
Jim forgive me if I'm way off base, but it has to be at least 16 years since my last visit to Cheers.
Poughkeepsie has the Hudson Valley bluegrass Assoc meeting every 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of the month. It's at the Pirate Canoe Club off rt 9W close to the bridge.
Boldles in Chester has a nice open mic on thursdays. A bunch of bluegrassers always show up.
I live in Nanuet and i am always willing to pick.

Hey there Tom,
The only thing I remember about Nanuet is Zazeens/ LA Woman. # http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif # If I remember correctly, it was 18 to get in the door and 15 to drink http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif ....not to mention all of those pretty ladies ;-)
My parents are up in Ringwood so Nanuet is not that far. #We still need to get the okay from the doctor to let my wife fly in her "condition". #
If we do, I'll send you a PM. Always lóókin' for an excuse to pick on vacation.
The only music store in the Middletown area is Alto Music ... they have a few low end mandos but nothing I'd go out of my way to see.
Bodles is a nice little scene and depending on who shows up can be rewarding ... or not! http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif ... wonderful people are always there though ... I love the place ...
Check out my friend Ben Freed's page ... he has a listing of "all things Bluegrass" in the lower Hudson Valley that is pretty much always up to date ... www.banjoben.com
Hope this helps ... http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
