I was wondering what kind of Rosewood is this, E. Indian, or some other?

What makes you think it is rosewood?

I would say it most definately NOT walnut but I don't know what it is. I seen a very similar wood on some instruments that were made in Mexico under the "Lonestar" name. A check of thier website might garner a clue.

It looks a bit like this "Honduras Rosewood" guitar...

Could that be the infamous "Nato"?

I believe if you searched for photos of wood you could come up with several candidates. That is the problem with posting a picture and saying what kind of wood is this. You will not get a concensus of opinion and if you did it would still be people's best guesses.
The only sure way (maybe) is to ask the luthier who built the mandolin.
