View Full Version : next 2 months of tremeloing and xpicking
not quite new to me as i did have 2 surguries for same problem about 10 years ago. i got hit by a wave at the beach and the force did it -not falling. first thing i thought of is mando playing while in the water -ha. my left arm is wrapped to my body, do i tremelo and xpick/ string up an old mando as a lefty to noodle around with, or learn harmonica/ doh. i'm bummed http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif
Tom,
That's tough. I saw a pic a long time ago of a dude with no arms playing guitar with his feet. Time to work on your big toe callouses. Best of luck.

Tough luck Tom, I know your bummed cause I sure would be.
If something like this were to happen to me and I couldn't play at all for 2 months I would try and do something that would help my playing when I was able to like throw myself into music theory or composing for two months. At least you would be occupying your mind and have something to do with music.
One thing though if you dislocated your shoulder but as long as your hands and fingers work ok you don't or at least I don't use or move my shoulder very much when I play.
Maybe after a few weeks you'll be able to do a little noodling on the mando or something.

You could get a ukulele... It's so small that you probably could get a resonably confortable playing position even with one arm strapped down, and the light strings would probably not put too much pressure on your left hand->wrist->shoulder... You could even tune it GDAE!

Hey Tom!
Those ocean waves can be brutal.
Sorry to hear about your shoulder.
Maybe you can spend some time going thru your CD collection and listening to various fiddle tunes (if you play those) to find some new ones to learn in August... 2 months of hearing them over and over and over and over might help when you can pick the mando up again!

You could use banjo picks and learn a roll like the way Don Reno used to play his Mando. Doesn't require as much arm movement.

thanks. i may be optmistic with 2 months depending on rehab or surgery. i will know more later this week. weird thing--my sister-in-law gave me all this food she cooked and had to help thru the next couple of weeks. this morning she fractured her ankle is is on the way home from hospital. she wants her food back http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif
I played for the first time last weekend -Still in a sling, but sooner than expected as Dr wants me to start getting some range of motion and rehabing as soon as posible. I have to have mando on the right side of me and I can not play the closed chords. Supporting the neck and moving fingers starts making the shoulder burn after a while, but I'm happy http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
Hopefully Grey Fox will not be in jeopardy.
