Don't shoot me! I just finished a project for Public Relations Principals in which I had to promote something. I promoted an event, specifically a banjo workshop with Don Wayne Reno in Portland, Tn. last Saturday. And yes, I went. I didn't play the banjo, I like other non-banjo pickers sat on the side and played chords. I even got up and danced to the dark instrument. Am I banned? Do I need professional help? Can you tell I'm just saying this to be full of crap? I had a good time.
The good news is that the workshop was at a friend's music store, and he has a mandolin I think I want and a 60 day layaway policy! And the mando is only $199. It's what I call a miraclin (mare-ick-uh-lynn); it's a miracle that the mandolin sounds as decent as it does. Yay! It's a J.B. Player. Cheap materials, passive pick-up, but sounds halfway alright, esp for what it is. Yay! So, I guess Wayne's Kentucky will be on it's way home in a couple months.

The fact that you danced to the dark instrument is a sign that your workshop was a great success. I don't think you need professional help and don't think you should be banned. I think you should be made to continue to post things as insightful and inspiring as this!
Good luck with the new mando - may it bring you joy.

Gary, howzabout if you just add my name to your posts from now on, to save me a little time? We agree so often. #http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
Nik-chick, I make banjo jokes too, but I've trying to learn clawhammer banjo for about 9 months now. I think it's a great instrument, although lately I've been playing guitar and mandolin more than anything else. I like finding a surprisingly good/cheap instrument, too.

Thanks guys. The opening of the post was one of those banjo jokes. I know I'm not really banned.
The workshop was a great success. Though it wasn't my workshop. It was my friend Steve's (his store) and it was Don Wayne Reno's. My publicity for them. We had 29 people. My goal had been 50, but thank God we didn't make it, 'cause I think it would have taken all of 33 to get the fire marshal called up there. (It was a store on Main St. in Portland, a small town near the Tn/Ky border, so you can imagine.)
I hope Mr. Reno gets some people to come to his banjo camp, because he did this for free getting nothing but recruiting out of it.

duuude: What steal reinforced....I'm getting a solid steel case (on wheels since I wouldn't be able to carry it).

I once walked into a banjo workshop that Pete Wernick was giving at a fetival and boy did he give me a hard time. "So what kind of banjo is that?" I ended up jamming on stage with him during the workshop, so it turned out to be kinda cool!
