Hi all,

On Monday, June 12 at 7:30 p.m., I'll be performing James Kachulis' Sonata for solo mandolin in a concert of Berklee faculty composers.

The concert will be held at the David Friend Recital Hall on Boylston Street in Boston.

Jimmy's Sonata is in three movements and strongly "world music influenced". In particular, there lovely passages of Greek influenced rhythms and melodic material. It is also a great deal of fun to play. It makes a great addition to the repertoire. I gave the permier a few years back at a Boston Conservatory recital.

Interestingly, this is my fourth (3rd playing mandolin) Berklee recital since February (I don't teach there -- I teach down the street at the Boston Conservatory). As part of the New England Mandolin Ensemble, I played at August Watters' recital, a month later I played in a quartet at John McGann's recital, and In April I played guitar with clarinetist, Peter Cokkinias in a performance (the premier of the original version) of Victor Kioulaphides' Suite.

Hope to see some of you there. If you come, please find me and introduce yourself.

Oh, I would LOVE to attend this performance, too, Jim, but... let us say that "reality has caught up with me" again, or rather that, post-Aonzo-workshop, *I* need to catch up with *it*. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

Best of luck, my friend! Some day, I will get to hear this piece; it sounds very, very attractive, judging from your description alone.

Cheers,

Victor

P.S. Those folks at Berklee sure have good taste! http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

I heard the premiere of the Kachulis, as JimD puts it, a few years back. It is a very good piece.
