I am making some progress with my first mandolin, the rib garland is complete and I'm busy fitting linings.

1st Question. Is the fingerboard flat (parallel to the line of the ribs) or is there an upward angle like that of a classical guitar?

2nd Question. What are the pro's and con's of mixing wood? That is, birdseye back and neck with flamed curly maple ribs.

The fingerboard angle is determined by the desired bridge height, and is angled quite a bit on a carved top mandoolin, less on a flat top.

Mixing of woods is purely an asthetic decision, in my opinion.

I realize that mixing the two types of maple is an aesthetic consideration but I've never seen it done before and wondered if anyone else had.

Where can I find some literature about correct neck angles, anyone know?
