Hey

Just in one of my curious moods and am wondering how a banjo is tuned?

First, you should ask IF a banjo is tuned...

That was too easy.

5 string:

gDGBD (standard Bluegrass G tuning)

gCGBD (another relatively standard tuning)

there are many others.

tenor banjo:

CGDA

many Irish players use:

GDAE an octave below mandolin.

Awesome thanks - to both the joke and the info! Solved a little curiosity I had.

Best to use wire cutters to tune with.

My banjo was tuned at the factory- that's good enough for me. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Oh heavens. Will my poor sides ever recover from the relentless deluge of hilarious banjo jokes?

There probably are some new ones, but if so I haven't seen them on this board... #http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

Is there an easy way to turn the volume down on a banjo so mando's are louder? http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

There's nothing I like better than the sound of a banjo Earl, unless it's a chicken caught in a vacuum cleaner.

The difference between a banjo and an onion is: Nobody cries when you chop up an onion!

Someone on the Mandolin Cafe has a tag line that says,"In heaven even the banjos will be in tune." My reaction was,"What? There are banjos in heaven?"

Did anybody look at that list of banjo tunings? It looks like string breaking time to me. I think I'll stick to the few standard tunings and modal tunings.

I looked at the for a long time. It must be like those pics of dots the kids get cross eyed at trying to see something. I looked and looked trying to figure out what was on top of the head. Then I saw it, there's something inside trying to get out.
