Looks very nice Skip! Is that a fir top?

Jasona, the top is a Redwood from our own spruce. I love it. It has a nice mellow tone like an old mandolin and it is still loud.

Skip is building some great looking mandolins! #I like the inlay work on the headstock. #Dang Skip, you are causing me to get a bad case of MAS!http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Lovely. If you're entertaining suggestions for color, here's mine: Cremona plum.

Great looking mandolin. Do you plan on building any more in that style? What made you decide to use the redwood top? Does it have a good punch like adirondak?

I have always wanted to try redwood. It doesn't have quite the punch as a red spruce top but, it still surprised me! I did not like working with the redwood, too delicate!

Skip that is a real cool mandolin --- maybe a antique wine burst to give it that "Grand Artist" appeal? Do you plan on selling that one or will that one be an SK keeper? Talk at ya later!! Lp

I have this mandolin stained and the oil varnish is on. Now the hard part of waiting for it to cure enough to rub out. I will post a pic soon.

Skippy, Skippy...

Don't you know that to emulate an artist's work to such a perfect degree is shameless? http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Alan, Thanks for the kind words!! I don't think anything I do is remotely close to perfect although I strive for it. Thanks Again!

I have always wanted to build a "perfect" mandolin but it is just not in me. I am thankful to do what i can with what ability God has blessed me with. Having said that; here are some pics.

I liek the Weber style scroll mixed with the Melatone style headstock. Any mandolin player should be able to tell you've done some homework on this one.
