View Full Version : Calton case buckles-tendency to come open

Occasionally, I find one or more of the buckle fasteners on my Calton are open (kinda like finding your flies are open . . . ?!!). No, seriously - one time I was talking to someone with my case strap over my shoulder, and the person I was talking to reached out and did up 1 (or was it 2!!) buckles. Another time, I set down my case, about to open it, and I see a buckle already open.

Am I just forgetting to latch all of them or is there a tendency for a latch to come open accidentally? Maybe one comes open (easier than it should . . . ) when rubbed against a coat, or bumped going through a door?

I always thought the key was to lose but maybe I should be locking at least one lock when transporting in certain situations/conditions . . . ?

Anyone here had Calton buckles come open when NOT intended?

I have 3 Caltons now, and several others over the years, and that has not happened to any of mine ever.

Never happened to me. Latches on my Calton mando case are very tight.

Never happened to me in the past six months since I've had mine. Very secure.

Have 2, no issues.

I would contact Al at Calton and discuss your problem. The one problem i had he was quick to help to resolve. Help is just a phone call or email away.

I've sold a couple dozen or so Caltons, and this is the first time I've heard of latches coming un-done. Add that to the other responses here, and it doesn't seem like it is a common problem.

If anything, mine almost fit too tightly. Once latched, they want to stay that way.

I've had that problem on other, less expensive cases. It seems like the two parts of the latch are too close to each other to allow the loop to really make firm contact with the other latch part. Putting some tape on the loop to snug up the fit was an easy fix but I wouldn't expect a case as expensive as a Calton to need that kind of DIY fix.

I often forget to latch the middle one.
(especially if I'm in a hurry to leave before people start throwing stuff!)

Like the rest...I have 5 Caltons currently and some are 6 years in age...No problems or pre-mature latch releasing...

Nope.

10 or twelve years and no problems like that. The gasket seals so tightly that I wonder if it even needs the latches:D

'Got Calton mando, dola, and guitar cases and that problem (nor any) have ever come up. Very tight fit, especially the mando case.

I don't have a Calton; mine is a TKL from Canada. My middle latch has a tendency to come undone. Since it's only the middle one, I don't worry about it. Maybe I should......???

I have had this problem with my Calton and it wasn't that the latch came undone - it was that I wasn't paying careful attention when I was closing the latches. #If you don't push the latch into the case, it can just slide over the latch into the open position. #Therefore the problem was not with the Calton, it was with me for not checking that the latch was properly closed. #Fortunately, I have incurred no damage and usually noticed the problem when the latch part banged against the case when I moved it. #I have never had a latch come open that was properly closed (double checked).
