I went to see a house concert here in Austin, TX on Saturday with Mike Compton & David Long. Of course it was incredible. Absolutely DRENCHED in the blues. We all know how good they are. But as an added treat, Tom Ellis was there with a few of his mandolins (one of which was being picked up by the head of the Austin Mandolin Orchestra, a one piece backed beauty) I got to play about three of the Ellis's and David's Gilchrist. There was another builder there named Stephan (forgot his last name). He said he's "off ther radar", but he had a nice F and a cool Martin-like f-hole like A.
It was a mando wonderland. Had to share it.

Could have been Passernig, I believe he's from there. He's getting a lot of press lately. I sure miss Austin. We left a few marks on each other. Frank

Yes, that was him! I really liked his mandolins. He worked for Collings for a while.

I played the Ellis one-piece back for a few minutes yesterday. Wow! And that back is lovely!

Passernig's mandolins are awesome. Especially for the price. I highly, highly recommend them.

I saw the same "house" concert in St Louis. Check out the following web site for some video clips of the evening. Oh yes, Steve Gilchrist sat in and played on a couple of the tunes.

Once at the web site hit "Videos" which appears in the index on the right hand side. Next, go to the "living Room" section and you will see the links to Compton & Long (& Gilchrist).
Enjoy!
