Oh yeah. I have recently upgraded tuners to Ping's and am currently looking for the right price on a one piece tail piece to fit the nickel tuners.

Good job. How does it sound? Did you string it up with the original tuners first, and if so, how much difference did that make? What kind of finish did you use?

Used tung oil for the finish.

As for tuners. I did string it up with them on there and one of the tuning heads reemed out on me. On the A string.

So I bought a set of those Pings from James Easter at MAyberry Music in Mt. Airy and can tell a BIG difference.

Was really thinkin of strippin it down and staining it a dark color. And then finishing it. I don't know.

Then again, may just build another one. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Looking good. I did the 'strip down and refin' thing about 3 times now. I settled on water stain and varnish, and its turning out better. My last go was actually the tru-oil thing, and I ended up just scuffing it up well and going shellac varnish right over the top of it. I did lose a little of my stain in the process, but such is that. I didn't wanna have to cut it back to the wood, as I'm worried the plates are too thin already after my multiple refins :-P

Amber varnish over the top of that would be purty, I bet.
