Here's some text from the book To Conquer The Air - The Wright Brothers & The Great Race For Flight, by James Tobin. The year is 1900.
Through the last days of August and early September, Wilbur worked alone in dreadful heat. Orville was apparently not much help. He was devoting his free hours to a new mandolin. "We are getting even with the neighborhood at last for the noise they have made on pianos," (sister) Kate informed her father. "He sits around and picks that thing until I can hardly stay in the house."
