I made a binding laminater out of a 3 pieces of wood and 2 clamps. #I know that there are tons of draw-backs, but at 14 and a $200 a month income, it is all I can afford.

Sorry, I pressed the wrong button.

Wish I had made $200 a month at 14. 22 years later it's not much better than that anyhow.

then add a couple more clamps and a razorblade and it becomes a binding thicknesser (type of thing)

Excellent! I do believe the most fun I have in building is trying to figure out "methods" such as you did in order to get the job done. At 14, I will guess if you keep at it you will not be a luthier wannabee for much longer. Dare I say, you should consider yourself a luthier gonnabee.

Ingenuity trumps every time.

If you decide to upgrade your homebrew jig later on, go to WalMart and buy a nonstick cutting board for your construction material. Great taste, less filling, if that means anything to you. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Do you mean post a pic of it at this stage or when I'm done?

BGP,
We like to see others work in progress and I like the unfinished work almost better than the finished product. So Please post a pick where your right now. Everybody has their own way of doing things which I find helpfull, like your simple jig.
Peter.

People like looking at progress pictures enough that there is a 68 page thread called Mandolins In Progress (http://www.mandolincafe.net/cgi-bin/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=15;t=7510) in the Post a Picture section.

You never know....

You might be doing something for the first time, and have figured out a way to do it, and someone who has been doing it most of their life will see it and say: "Why didn't I think of that 30 years ago?"

You might also be doing something and someone with a truck load of experience will see it and suggest a much better way.

Posting pictures of your work is a good thing here. The profits can work both ways.
