I've had thoughts from time to time regarding trying to learn to play mandolin. I currently am a flatpicking guitar player, and know very little about the world of mandolins.

I play lefty, and from what I can see in pictures, it appears that converting a right handed A model to lefty would be relatively easy. The nut needs changing.... is there anything else? Is the bracing symmetrical for right and left hand models, unlike most guitars?

I'd be interested to hear any tips and thoughts from y'all.

Thanks in advance,

You would have to change the bridge too.

Gary,

I am also a lefty and was lucky enough to find a left handed mandolin. Nut and Bridge need to be changed. Depending on the make and model, it may be symetrical bracing. I believe that cross braced are symetrical. Having inquired at both Mid Mo and Weber (they offer both left and right) they both said they could convert a right handed A model to left handed. As I recall, the cost would have been about $100.00 plus shipping.
