A few months ago I asked about the Fostex MR8's. I finally got around to getting one and I'm fairly pleased. I wasn't real impressed with the effects as many have stated but over all it did a nice job. The Sure & AKG dyanmic mics were fair and the Oktava MK-012 did OK. The CAD E200 I had did real good, as I would expect from a large diaphram microphone. I paid $400 with the headphones and got a free padded bag.

Our group tried the MR8 out at practice last night. We used a single mic approach with a couple of Oktava's as overhead mics. I was surprized how good the sound quality was on the stereo in my truck.

I've been using a MR8 for a little over a year now, and have mostly been pleased. With a 512 MB flash card, I can record around 90 minutes of tracks, but with the 40 Gig hard drive now offered, it would be much better. Record through a mixer to give you abilities to EQ and you have a good economical system that's easy to use. Editing is a problem but over all quality is pretty decent.
