A few weeks ago I was looking for an specific style of case. I had searched high and low without any luck. #I just happened to run across Harry and Jeanie West Music; a great little music store in Statesville, NC. #I gave them a call and found that they had what I was looking for. #It is about an hours drive from my home, but well worth the trip.

The store is located downtown in a beautiful old building; on street parking is not a problem. #I entered the door and it was like, WOW. #They have more mandolins and Martin Guitars on display than I have ever seen in one store. #At the time, there were at least 25 different mandolins and 30 or more different Martin Guitars. #Several chairs were set up so that you could sit down and try out the different instruments. #The lady, who with her husband owns the store, told me that if I didn't see the specific instrument I was looking for, let her know. #She said that what I was seeing was only about 1/4 of what they have in stock in the back.

If your traveling I-40 or I-77 through NC in the Stateville area, or find your self down for Merlefest take an hour or two and stop by. #

Here is a link to their catalog page. #Be sure and look over the used/vintage instruments. I'm not sure how firm the prices shown are. #If you see something your interested in, it may be worth an e-mail or phone call.

Be sure and check out some of the mandolins and guitars in the "Museum of Stringed Instruments" section.

Nice selection indeed. Lots of not-so-usual stuff, and a couple of downright unusual ones!

Take a look at the green Paganoni $37,500 sound a little high though. But a neat mandolin anyway

I'm somewhat surprized by their MIJ Alvarez and Aria prices too!

I met Harry many years ago at various instrument events in New York. He is a long time collector of vintage stuff. His prices are based on the fact that he is still a collector. You can see the rest of his collection here (http://www.harryandjeaniewest.com/productCat58708.ctlg).

He is definitely a curmudgeon but has been around for quite awhile before any of us called these things vintage.

Definitely been around for a while. Here's a Harry West story from about 30 years ago:

I bought a 1938 D-28 from Harry in 1977 for $1600. I still remember he called it a real boomer. Wish I still had it. I sold it and it practically paid my way through college.

Pretty good investment no matter how you look at it.
