View Full Version : New Glenn is HERE!
I came here in January asking about a starter mandolin that I wanted to get for my husband as a gift. #After all the wonderful folks here gave me much needed advice, I decided on the Glenn Student A-Style Mandolin. #I contacted Allen at Glenn about building one. #I made some changes to the finish upgraded the tuners and added top binding. #It arrived today and I can't even begin to tell you how happy I am!!!! #My husband did NOT want to put it down. #*I* loved listening to him play it so much, I didn't want him to put it down either. #It is just what I wanted and sounds even better. #Allen Jones at Glenn is so wonderful to work with. #I highly recommend him and his wonderful Student mandolin. #It's a wonderful instrument for the money. #The pics are not very good, but give you an idea anyway. #I'm a lousy photographer and only had a moment to spare. They really don't do justice to this mandolin.
Thank you so much to everyone here that helped me decide....and especially the review that was written up on it. #I've never posted pics on here so I hope they work. #
A huge thank you to Allen at Glenn - you are truly wonderful and best wishes to you and your family.

Patty,
I'm thrilled that both you and your hubby are happy. It looks great. Always nice to have another Maryland picker. Now isn't it time for you to get one?

Patty,
Have you got a sister? There are a lot of guys thinking right now "Where do I go to meet women like this?"

I was thinking the same thing! My wife tells me to quit playing.......not that she "loves" it.
Another thing, that is just awesome that you got him a mandolin. My wife would never do such a thing.

Nice looking mandolin. He's a lucky guy, as others have said. I know you made a good choice with the Glenn. I play mine all the time. You can't beat it at twice the price.
And yeah, if you have a sister.... http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Patty does some cafe research and then orders up a Mandolin for her husband. She tells us that she loves to hear him play the new Mandolin so much that she does not want him to put it down! She seems as excited about the Mandolin as her husband. Patty then takes pictures, posts them on the cafe and shares the story. Wait a minute...is she just tormenting us?
OK...Patty could now be the front runner in the wife of the year voting http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif

Normally, "Wife buys Mandolin for Husband" would appear on the front page. In this case, it was placed on page 8 ...
below the fold. The first 7 pages were devoted to reports which supported the headline " Hell Freezes Over".

Frankly, I think Patty is a Pat. #Reminds me of people talking about meeting the perfect "girl" on a romance chat board to only find out that their perfect "girl" is really a guy. #
Or, could be possibly be someone like Norman Bates. Maybe the hubby is actually dead (murdered?) and Patty's psychosis and guilt torment her to believing that he is still alive and must be showered with gifts and adulation.
Or, I suppose, Patty is a great lady who loves her husband--but that isn't as exciting as the other more sordid options.
Great looking mandolin!

DANG! where do they grow girls like this! I want one!

ROTFL!! You guys are too funny! You have to take into consideration that I am a wife whose husband ALSO plays the fiddle. Now, while I LOVE the fiddle too, it is MUCH harder to listen to solo than this mando, I can tell you that for sure! So, while you all think I am a great wife (which I do appreciate), you could also see me as sneaky and scheming to get what I want http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
Really, my husband travels a lot for work and this will be much more quiet than the fiddle at the hotel.
It really did make the best gift ever. Hopefully he thinks so too. You guys will meet him soon, I'm sure. You can tell him his wife would like a brand new saddle for her horse http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif
I should also say that this could end up being a catch 22 here. What HAVE I done?? He is OBSESSED with what I am now referring to as, "his OTHER woman!"

Here's the catch, boys... My wife has a horse. If I was allowed parity in spending for mandos with what she has in the horse and board, and tack... I would be able to have some of those mandos on my dream list!
I've described owning a horse like digging, by hand, in hard clay, a 10x10x10 pefectly smooth hole in the earth on a wickes hot/humid day all alone, then periodically going out and throwing money in it. Interstingly, they still seem to be worth it.
Patty, You did a very nice thing for your husband, I hope you get a nice saddle.

Well, that goes without saying. We have wives too. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
The fact that you actually made it a huge win/win deal in the process is what is so impressive! Most of us don't even try to pretend that our wives aren't able to get us to do things that we'd never dream of doing on our own.....and they even get us to like it too.
You ladies are something else! http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
